Weather Data exchange September 2016

September Weather Data from Bill Arthur, South Perth County
For record comparison HU are compiled from May 10 to Sept 20

A new high for HU in September for me and about 50% of normal rainfall.
Rainfall has been spotty all season with some getting enough and others being too dry,
but few have received an over supply.
A new high for Hu in September AND for the year.
My records have been set up from May 10 -September 20 for frost safe growing season but
of course we are still accumulating HU’s this year with the total at 3378 on September 30.

Edible bean harvest began in the last half of August this year and for the most part is
complete now with mostly below normal yields, some far below normal.

Last cutting of forages occurred in the first week of September with lighter than normal yields
some oats etc planted after wheat have been harvested in the past couple weeks to enhance
forage supplies and most looked to be good yields.

Soys are approaching 50% finished with wheat drills following the combine and there are fields
planted to wheat after edibles in early September that have very good growth already.
Soy yields in this area have been above average with some setting new yield highs for
their production.
Corn silage was done on dry land so little harm to the soil and average to good yields but signs
of some mild and smaller % of grain with much tip back in some fields.
With the rain on the first days of October a little grain corn was being harvest on
October 3 with moisture as low as 22-24%. Those storing high moisture grain are working
late tonight, October 3.
