July 3 Victoria SCIA Information Day
9:30 am to 10:10 Pasture tour at Paul Kennedy's North of Glenarm Rd about 2 kms on Killarney Bay Rd just past Kodiak Rd on east side (signs at entrance to tour area). See three herbicide treatments to control invasive and broadleaf weeds in rangeland and permanent pastures. The treatments are MCPA, MCPB/MCPA, and RESTORE 11 (a new product by Dow AgroSciences). DO NOT ENTER PROPERTY WITHOUT A TOUR GUIDE! The trial is replicated at John Kinghorn's farm located at 1030 Cambray Rd (1st farm south of junction of Cambray Rd and Woodville Rd on east side) and people will have the opportunity to visit that location at 1:45 p.m.
10:30 am to 11:20 Meet in farm yard at 1079 Black School Rd. Forage test plots at Scott Tamlin and Bruce McKeown farms. Test consists of application of 100 Ibs/ac Ammonium Sulphate late April/early May. After 1st cut, half the area fertilized will receive a spray application of a special fertilizer mixture supplied by Julian Suurd. A check strip is being left with no treatment. Yield test will be performed on all different treatments including check strip. Soil tests and tissue samples will be done. Tour entrance on north side of road at driveway on west side of barn, (location signed) Both sites can be accessed from this one location but do not leave the Black School Rd. without a tour guide!
11:30 am Meet at Tampa Farms Ltd. 1330 Quaker Rd. (hosts Terry and Tim Parker). MTO officer Rob Stickan will make a presentation on the basic rules that we need to be aware of for the safe movement of "Slow moving farm equipment" on our roadways. There will be a formal presentation and a chance to ask questions and reviews some demonstrations of equipment.
12:30 pm to 1:30 pm BBQ lunch provided by Victoria Soil & Crop Improvement Association
1:45 pm Tour of Provincial Corn Trials at Ed Bagshaw's home farm, located at 1299 Elm Tree Rd. We are fortunate to have the Provincial Corn Trials in the Lindsay area.
1:45 pm There is an option for those that prefer to visit the 2nd location of the Pasture Trial at John Kinghorn’s at 1030 Cambray Rd.

East Central Scholarships ,
Criteria: Students living in the East Central area Durham, Haliburton, Peterborough, Victoria, York
- enrolled in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year at a post-secondary institution or an agricultural college.
Four scholarships in the amount of $1000 - selection takes into account academic performance,
leadership, contribution to community, involvement in rural youth organizations with emphasis on
conservation and environmental goals.

Got a project? - Need some financial assistance?
Your 4-H or Soil and Crop Association can apply for up to $1100 towards the project.
Applications may be made to the East Central Region Soil and Crop Improvement Association for up to $750 for Soil & Crop or 4-H projects in the East Central area.
Decision to accept the project will reflect the mandate of the East Central Soil & Crop Improvement Association.
a) To encourage the adoption of such soil and crop management practices that are best suited to the soil and climatic conditions of the Region.
b) To organize, coordinate, sponsor, and facilitate with projects and outreach on a regional basis that 'Communicate and Facilitate the Economic Management of Soil, Water, Air and Crops' through field days, special meetings, field crop demonstrations, or other activities as decided upon by the Directors.
c) To co-operate with other agricultural organizations of common interests.
