  • August 26 -30 East Central Soil and crop trip to Farm Progress Show in Iowa August 26-30, 2018
    Departure, Sunday August 26 at 7:00 am from Peterborough. Pick up in Lindsay and pickup in Durham. Drive for a full day, stopping at border and for lunch. Arrive at Joliet Best Western North.
    Monday: Breakfast included at best Western and stop at Le Claire, Iowa Antique Archeology, home base and store for American Pickers on History T.V. Stop for lunch
    1:00—Kinze Innovation Centre and plant tour. The Innovation Centre shows Kinze’s rich heritage and highlights technology shaping the future of farming. See how a local one man shop grew in 50 years to having 900 employees. Approximately 2 hours.
    Arrive n Des Moines early evening and check into Quality Inn.
    Tuesday: Breakfast included at Quality Inn. Full day at Farm Progress Show at Boone, Iowa. Back to Hotel for evening.
    Wednesday: Breakfast included at the Quality Inn. Tour of Lacrosse Turf and Forage, specializing in award winning cover crop seed and research (unconfirmed at press time)
    3:00pm: Cinnamon Ridge Farms, Donahue Iowa. The Maxwell Family, a sixth generation dairy farm focusing on farm tours for both the general public and farmers (over 6,000 last year). Milking 250 Jerseys with robots: 2017 average: 11,681 kg milk; 554 kg fat; 448 kg protein. Also, on farm cheese processing. They farm 4,000 acres of corn and soybeans. 3 of last 4 years yields were over 300 bushels for corn. Cow calf operation: market all their dairy bull beef through local stores. In addition: 10,000 pigs and a layer operation and on farm store. We will have supper here
    Check into Best Western Plus in Joliet.
    Thursday: back home to Peterborough
    Pricing based on double occupancy. Space is limited to 40 paying passengers. 4 nights hotel, 4 breakfasts and bus: $762 per person
    We are hoping to get sponsors to help cover other meals etc.
